OM SWASTYASTU
(A Balinese greeting which means prayers for auspiciousness and well-being to all)
My name is IDA BAGUS KETUT DHARMA. I lead walking tours through rice fields, rural villages, and spice plantations near Ubud, Bali. In addition, I am an artist in the Keliki style. I am also a Balinese priest for human life passage ceremonies in my village.
My usual 7-Km trek usually starts from Sakti Village, just north of Ubud, and end up in my village, Keliki. This trek takes about 2 to 3 hours (Note: shorter treks are possible; see options below). Along the way, I will explain about Balinese rice cultivation, the subak system of irrigation and also about medicinal herbs and plants which I learned from my grandfather who was a respected healer in my village.

There are three possible route options:
A. The REGULAR ROUTE is 7 kilometers from Sakti village to Keliki Village. For most trekkers, this walk is about 3 hours because we will stop many times along the way to learn about rice cultivation, the subak irrigation system and also medicinal plants. This route also involves going down a slope of a steep hill side to a bamboo bridge across the Wos River and then up the opposite hill side of a natural fern garden. This slope can be difficult and also not recommended during the rainy season due to the slippery muddy slope. The walk continues for another 30 minutes through a coffee and spice plantation, and more rice fields before reaching my village of Keliki. I would rate this route as challenging.

B. The MEDIOCRE ROUTE is about 5 kilometers from Sakti village to slightly farther from Klabang Moding village, where a car will await us to bring us to Keliki village. This walk is about 2 to 2.5 hours. It is moderately easy and it does not involve going down the steep hill side as the regular route.

C. The EASY ROUTE is about half the distance of the regular route. It starts at Sakti village and ends in Klabang Moding village where our driver will bring us to Keliki village. Even though this is an easy walking trek, many of my trekkers like this walk because of the lush greenery of the rice fields is so calming. Also there are a number of medicinal plants along this shorter route.

Depending on your physical ability, please choose any one of the above three walking route options. With any option, you will experience rural Bali that few visitors get to see. These walks are not the regular tourist walking routes around Ubud where tens of tourists, clutching their Lonely Planet guide, trek through rice fields lined with countless luxurious houses built by expatriates.
The cost of the trek is IDR 350,000 per person regardless of which option you choose to do. This includes pickup at your hotel, the trek, lunch and drop-off back at your hotel.
